Emergency Communications (Basic)

This Emergency Communications Training course introduces participants to the essential concepts, equipment, and procedures necessary for reliable communication during emergencies. The course begins with an overview of radio communication principles, including signal propagation, frequency bands, and licensing requirements for HAM and GMRS radios.
Participants will learn the differences between radio types, legal usage guidelines, and how to select the right equipment for various emergency scenarios. Topics will also include basic radio etiquette, the use of repeaters, privacy considerations, and how to establish and participate in emergency communication nets.
LOCAL CLASS: This 1-hr in-person class is currently only available for Franklin, TN residents. Online training is available via Google Meet or Zoom for residents outside of Franklin, TN.

Emergency Communications (Advanced)
🏠 Home-based private session — priced for your whole family.
This follow-on course to Emergency Communications (Basic) focuses on hands-on, scenario-based training designed to simulate communication challenges during real-world emergencies. Students will practice setting up handheld radios, programming frequencies, and conducting radio checks.
Exercises will cover emergency message formatting, situational reporting, and relaying information through a network of operators. Participants will also engage in mock emergency drills, including grid-down communication setups and cross-team coordination. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to confidently manage and maintain effective radio communications when conventional systems fail.
